Where do I find the online quoting system?

To get an online direct mail quote, as well as ordering your job, uploading artwork or accessing our resources, you must register and login to our Members Area.

What is Mailsort?

Mailsort is a Royal Mail scheme which reduces postage on larger mailings. Discounts start at 1,000 for large letters and 4,000 for ordinary letters

The discount is achieved by sorting the mail into post code areas and putting each areas in a labelled mailbag.  The software used, the need to maintain a sequence throughout, and the large number of mailbags involved create extra cost.  In practice little cost saving is achieved for letter mailing below 10,000 items. Depending on the weight, large letter mailings can produce a good saving for 2,000 items or more.

Mailsort can use 1st or 2nd class, or a 3-7 day delivery called Mailsort 3. By meeting certain design standards and by using barcodes greater savings can be achieved – although Royal Mail need to approve samples before mailing which is often time consuming.

Mailondemand will always recommend the cheapest postage method available.

What is Walksort?

Walksort is a similar scheme to Mailsort except that the qualification is based on the number of addresses mailed in each post code area. In practice mailings under 250,000 rarely qualify for Walksort, unless they are very localised.

What is a PPI?

Mailing houses like Mailondemand do not use stamps or even franking machines.  We use Pre-Printed Impressions (PPIs) instead.  The design and envelope position is very strictly set down by Royal Mail and the colour must be black or similarly contrasting to the envelope.
